about
This is a re-telling of the Greek myth of Apollo's love affair with Hyacinth. I am captivated by this story. Not only because I'm a sucker for a romance filled with high drama and tragedy. Not only because any queer love story will bring me to my knees. More importantly, this story captivates me with its wedding of ecstasy and grief. Out of his mourning for his dying lover, Apollo creates a flower in his memory. His heartbreak brings the spring.
Name a more poetic finale. I'll wait.
lyrics
Stranded light - you lift your gaze toward the sun
One eye bright as sea rime, the other black as the sky
The night your skin was on my skin, breath in my lungs.
You breathe a flower into me, and I cannot hide
From your name,
From your mercy
Hold your breath now, hold my truth shut in your palm
Bound so tight together, fate finds us staying up nights
The way is easy when the air is still and calm
Come now, climb the ridgeline at first light and feel the wind as it rises
From this country
From our bodies
Casting shadows, casting doubt
Casks of wine your blood poured out
Love, may I throw myself from the ridge with the pines as my witnesses
If that would bring you back again,
My flower
Take the flensing knife and place it on my tongue
Cut away the words I knew before we met
All speaking casts a spell, we need a different tome
All singing rings a bell, your voice could be the spring if mine were the sun
In its rising
In its setting
Flensing memory, cull the herd
Just spare our lives
Flesh remembers every word
If the hand of time had its way, this would pass with the day
But will you wait for me when you've been set free
To the wind
Sightless eyes follow behind
All death is blind
Breathless wind, the rib of time
Tell me was it the western wind that at last did us in, or was it me?
Can't image that would make history
When every kiss became a petal
And every tear molten metal
You live on as nectar
Honey scent in the water
And the spring is our daughter
I drink from every bloom

A collection of the most perfect songs I've heard in a good while. This record is so rich, I'll be spending a lot of time steeping in it. Carlisle Evans Peck
