about

We inhabit a planet in crisis.
It is now past time to recognize this and make our reparations for what we as a species have done.

This album is an elegy for The River. In this case, the specific river is the Mississippi. A river which has suffered untold abuses, and whose children have suffered displacement and genocide.

Yet this same story has been played out the world over.

So. This album is dedicated to Sacred Water and Indigenous Peoples around the globe.

That which has been committed cannot be undone. But perhaps we can face the ugliness of history and the terrifying crisis of the present honestly and humbly, so we may safeguard the future.

All proceeds will be donated to the Water Protectors at the Sacred Stone Camp. The Dakota Access Pipeline is a heinous convergence of colonialism and industry, and these folks are bravely defending the Missouri River from this scourge and fighting for the self-evident truth that water is life. This is a situation that is urgently relevant to all of us.

Composed, Performed, and Produced by Carlisle.

Recorded at North East United Methodist Church, City of Lakes Waldorf School, and my bedroom in Minneapolis, MN

Endless gratitude to Sarah Lawton, North East United Methodist Church, and City of Lakes Waldorf School for spaces to record.

And also to Kevin Geedey, Reuben Heine, and Michael Reisner for teaching me everything I know about water.

And also to Ian Carstens for taking me on crazy river adventures for his "Body of Water" film project.

And of course, The River. I would give you life over this.
